DevLog #5 - Update after long time of silence
It's been quite some time since my last devlog. Due to some personal reasons, I had to take a small break from working on "What happened in Penance" and I didn't have much time to write either.
Looking at the game with a fresh perspective, I realized that I'm not satisfied with where it is going. I have decided to take a step back and make some changes to make "WhiP" more interesting and well... fun.
Before my break I was working like crazy, spending up to 13 hours a day building this game, which was a very stupid thing to do as in the last few days I felt burned out and unmotivated to continue.
For that reason, I have decided to change the way I do things too. First of all, I'd like to share more and update more frequently about the process. Writing a blog/devlog is nice, but it does feel a bit limiting when it comes to showing off progress, so I'm thinking about starting a YouTube channel. I wanted to use it to showcase what I'm working on atm, but I was also considering including tutorials on some of the things that were weirdly obscure and buried in the depths of the internet. I don't guarantee my knowledge is 100% errorproof, but I try to make things "the right way" and I hope to at least make it easier for other fellow devs.
Another thing I have decided to change was to stop putting so much pressure on releasing the game fast. I don't want to half-ass it. I want the game to be as good as I can make it with my current knowledge and to achieve this I need to take my time. It's not, however, as simple as it sounds, because sadly I still need to pay my bills and eat. That's why I decided to start selling some 3D models I had laying around on my drive. For now, I'm posting my stuff on Unreal Marketplace and ArtStation, but I will also put stuff on Sketchfab in the future. I know that it's highly unlikely that it will generate any significant income, but it's worth a try and it's not like there's any harm in giving it a shot. I will also post some free stuff that would be helpful for prototyping or making personal projects, so feel free to take a look! :D
